Alf Holt, age 82, of Fosston, MN, passed away on Wednesday (March 7th) at First Care Hospital in Fosston. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday (March 13th) at Kingo Lutheran Church in Fosston with the Rev. John Dalen officiating. Interment will be in Poplar River Cemetery, rural Fosston. Visitation will be held from Noon until the time of services at the church on Tuesday. Flag presentation will be provided by Wild Rice V.F.W. Post #1226 of Bejou. Online register book is available at www.carlinhoialmen.com.Alf William Holt (Hem) was born on August 24, 1924 in Anoka, Minnesota to parents Olaph and Alpha (Hem) Holt. His mother passed away during childbirth and he was raised by his grandparents, Ole and Amelia, and later, his uncles and aunts. He attended school in Fosston through the eighth grade while helping his uncles on the farm. He also worked at the Ford garage in Fosston during his teenage years.Alf faithfully served his country by entering the United States Army in November of 1944 and was stationed in Okinawa, Japan. He received his honorable discharge in October of 1946 and returned to farming northeast of Bejou, Minnesota.He was united in marriage to Ruby (Olson) Stiegelmeyer on June 2, 1968. After their marriage, they lived on the home farm and also operated Holt's Greenhouse from 1972 until 1980. They moved to the Cornerstone Residence in April of 2006, where they were currently residing.Alf was a member of Kingo Lutheran Church in Fosston, the Wild Rice V.F.W. Post #1226 of Bejou where he had served as Post Commander, the DAV (Disabled American Veteran's) of Crookston, and the Mahnomen American Legion.In his spare time, Alf liked to tinker and could fix just about anything. He liked to deer hunting, fishing and going to Rollag to the Steam Thresher's Reunion. He dearly loved his dog, Teddy.Alf passed away on Wednesday, March 7, 2007 at First Care Hospital in Fosston at the age of 82 years, six months and 11days.Survivors include his wife, Ruby of Fosston; two daughters, Robin (Leroy) Colsen of Bejou, MN, and Ruth Buschette of Moorhead, MN; four stepsons, Russell (Virginia) Olson of Erskine, MN, Rodney (Diane) Olson, Robert (Linda) Olson, and Randy (Tina) Olson, all of Fosston; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; one half brother and one half sister and other relatives also survive.He was preceded in death by his grandparents; parents; aunts and uncles; and infant grandson, Adam Colsen.Honorary Pallbearers will be Irving Sandgren, Eugene Freyholtz, Robert "Buddy" Balstad, Kenny Yost, Oniel Rainsberry, and Russell Reichenbach.Active Pallbearers will be Roy Colsen, Kyle Delage, Kenny Olson, Dick Freyholtz, Steve Biescot and Jeff Olson.
