Alene Clementson, age 84, of Fosston, MN, passed away on Monday (April 13th) at First Care Nursing Home in Fosston. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday (April 17th) at Kingo Lutheran Church in Fosston with the Rev. John Dalen officiating. Interment will be in Kingo Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service on Thursday (April 16th) at the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home in Fosston. There will also be reviewal for one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church. Arrangements are with the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Fosston and messages of condolence may be sent at carlinhoialmen.com.Alene Margaret Naastad was born December 14, 1924 to Lorentz and Louise (Berglund) Naastad in Aiktow, Saskatchewan, Canada. She was baptized in Canada. At the age of one year she moved with her parents and brothers to Queen Township in Polk County, Minnesota. She was confirmed on April 22, 1939 by Rev. G. Gulberg at Cross Lake Lutheran Church, Queen Township rural Fosston. She attended Happy Corner School in Queen Township and graduated from Fosston High School in 1942. Alene went on to attend Minnesota School of Business in Minneapolis, completing the Secretarial Finishing Course and obtaining her first job at Graybar Electric Company in the Foshay Tower. She returned to Fosston in 1948.On March 18, 1950 Alene was united in marriage to Arvid Clementson. They made their home in Fosston, where they lived most of their lives, except for some time in Texas in the 1950s. From this marriage five children were born: Bonnie, Dean, Nancy, Joseph and Jennifer. Arvid died in October 2006.Alene continued her bookkeeping career with employment over the years at the Fosston Creamery, KEHG Radio and the Fosston Municipal Hospital (now First Care) retiring in 1981.Her greatest joy was her family, raising her five children, seeing her grandchildren grow to adulthood and sharing in the recent birth of her first great-grandchild. Her extended family was very important to her and she loved keeping family genealogy and traditions alive. Arvid and Alene had many travels both within and outside the U.S. with a highlight being their trip to Norway.Alene was a member of her Birthday Club for over fifty years. She always looked forward to the monthly birthday parties with her dear friends. Alene stayed close to several of her childhood friends and high school classmates. In addition to her family, friends and travel, Alene enjoyed needlework, music and sharing her husband's passion for the community of Fosston. She was a lifetime member of the Spring Lake Auxiliary #2579 of Lengby and the Tangen-Walstrom Auxiliary #114 of Fosston.In addition to her husband Arvid, she is preceded in death by parents Lorentz and Louise Naastad, son Dean, brothers Lester, John and Vernon Naastad.Alene is survived by her children Bonnie (Michael) Stewart of Fosston, Nancy (Gary) Laines of Wheaton, MN, Joe (Sandy) Clementson of Staten Island, NY and Jennifer (Jeff Thompson) Harris of Phoenix, AZ; grandchildren, Maggie, Ted, Andrew and Ryan Stewart, Lou, Betsy and Carly Raguse; great-grandson, Vincent Stewart; sisters-in-law, Norma Dillenburg, Grand Forks, ND, Edna Mae Clementson, Clarkston, WA and Ethel Naastad, Lengby, MN and brother-in-law, Hayden Thompson, Vail, CO. Many nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
