Alberta Berglund

Alberta Berglund, age 82, of Fosston, MN, passed away on Sunday (December 30th) at Good Shepherd Nursing Home in Sauk Rapids, MN after a valiant fight with lung cancer. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday (January 5th) at New Journey Church in Fosston with Pastor Mark Erickson officiating. Interment will be in Rosehill Cemetery, Fosston. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday morning at the church. Arrangements are with the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Fosston and messages of condolence may be sent at carlinhoialmen.com.Alberta May Churness was born on May 7, 1930 to parents, Sidney and Alma (Jacobson) Churness. She grew up on the family farm and attended school in Greenwood Township, rural Clearbrook.  She moved to North Dakota for a short period of time to find work. After returning to Minnesota, she worked at various cafes around the area, including the Little Cafe in Fosston. She worked at the Simplot potato flaking plant for 10 years and in the kitchen at the Magelssen Elementary School for 10 years before retiring. Alberta & Harold took many trips after retirement to see family and friends, as well as for pleasure.  She was set up on a blind date with Harold Berglund in 1949. They married on September 16, 1950, after seeing each other almost daily for a year. Soon after, Harold went into the army at Camp McCoy, Wisconsin. Alberta joined him and Ralph was born in August, 1951 while they were stationed there. They returned to Fosston in 1952.  Pam was born in November 1960. Alberta enjoyed collecting antiques and going to garage sales. She was always willing to help friends and family in need. She had severe arthritis to both hands and feet, but never complained of the pain . She enjoyed spending time with her husband, children, grandchildren and most recently her new great granddaughter. Survivors include two children, Ralph (Lois) Berglund of Moorhead, MN; Pam Berglund of Sauk Rapids, MN; two grandsons, Nick (Randi) Berglund of West Fargo, ND, and Chris Berglund of Roseau, MN; one great granddaughter, Lauren Berglund of West Fargo, ND; five siblings, Melvin (Lila) Churness of Clearbrook, MN, Ruth (Helmer) Hanson of Clearbrook, MN, Ardella (Marvin) Lindberg of Leonard, MN, Betty (Don) Sorenson of  Baudette, MN, and Karen (Vern) Vogh of Osakis, MN; two sisters-in- law, Gerry Berglund of Fosston, MN and Fern Churness of  Two Harbors, MN, as well as multiple nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of almost 50 years, Harold Berglund; her parents, three siblings, Elenora Baanrud, Viola (Andy) Anderson, and Harvey Churness; four in-laws, Jennings, Grace, Roy, and Muriel Berglund. Honoray Pallbearers: All of Alberta's family and friends.Active Pallbearers: Alberta's two grandsons, Nick Berglund, Chris Berglund; four nephews Mike Churness, David Churness, John Berglund, and Robert Bagne.
