Albert "Pete" Scheff, loving husband and father of five children, passed away at Cornerstone Living Extended Care in Fosston at the age of 86. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 28th, at Bethel Assembly Church in Fosston with Pastor Seth Johnson officiating. Interment will be Riverside Cemetery, Mahnomen, in the spring. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service Thursday at the church. Arrangements are with the Carlin Funeral Home of Fosston and messages of condolence may be sent at www.carlinfuneral.com.Albert Charles Scheff was born on September 14, 1932 to Herbert and Mary (Meshke) Scheff in Fortuna, North Dakota. When he was about five years old, the Scheff family moved to Lockhart, Minnesota. In 1942, they moved to the Mahnomen area, where they farmed.Albert graduated from high school in 1948 at the age of 16. He went to one semester of post-secondary school at the University of Minnesota Crookston, where he played football. He completed another semester of post-secondary education at North Dakota State School of Science in Wahpeton. After two semesters of college, he returned home to help on the family farm.On May 9, 1959 Albert married his sweetheart, Marlys Young. They purchased a farm in rural Mahnomen where they raised their five children and operated a dairy. They lived on the farm until April 2014, when they moved into Cornerstone Assisted Living in Fosston.Albert loved farming and the outdoors. He was an avid hunter and expert horseman. He loved to read and was knowledgeable on many subjects. He loved to listen to music and had a large music collection. He also loved people and enjoyed visiting with friends, family, and neighbors, as well as getting to know new people.Although tested and tried by the circumstances life threw at him, he was a man of unwavering faith who loved his Savior to the very end. He taught Sunday School and served as a church board member at Bethel Assembly for many years. He attended Bethel regularly until the last couple of years of his life when his advanced Parkinson's made getting out difficult.Albert was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and four sisters. Albert is survived by his wife Marlys of Fosston, his five children, Michelle (Ronn) Landsverk of Fosston, Carla (Tom) Johnson of Holdridge, NE, Tina (Kevin) Penner of Mahnomen, Monte Scheff of St. Paul, MN, and Peter (Stephanie) Scheff of Mahnomen, six grandchildren, Christian, Ava, Bryce, Sonya, Ayden, and Cora, one great granddaughter, Isla, and many nieces and nephews.
